Biography

Oswald Jenewein is an architectural and urban designer, researcher, and teacher focusing on climate adaptation of the built environment. In his work, Oswald develops cross-disciplinary projects combining design, research, and teaching components to develop holistic strategies for (urban) landscapes while engaging in participatory initiatives.

Oswald is an Assistant Professor of Architecture for Ecological Environments and Digital Design at the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington where he also founded and directs FUELED - the Future Environments Lab for Ecological Design. He is also a Lecturer of Architecture at the Institute of Design and the Institute of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture at the Leopold Franzens University of Innsbruck, Austria.

As part of his pedagogical approach in educating students as responsible, global citizens, and critical thinkers, Oswald is serving as International Studies Coordinator and Chair of the Research Review Committee at the College of Architecture Planning and Public Affairs at UT Arlington. He is also the Second Year Studio Coordinator in the BSc. Program in the School of Architecture at UT Arlington, implementing digital methodologies of design, representation, and fabrication. He teaches architecture design studios, visual communication, and architectural theory with a focus on ecological design.

Oswald was a 2019 Marshall Plan Research Fellow working on his recently published paper “The Texas Coast as Geopolitical Territory: The Spatial Regime of Burning Fossil Fuels in Coastal Landscapes of Oil.” He won several research grants and exhibited nationally and internationally including the 2021 Architecture Biennale in Venice.

Recent publications include “Post-Oil Environments: Responsive Design Strategies for Coastal City-Landscapes of Oil” and “Designing towards Ecological Environments. A Modular Approach to Structure a Design Studio Sequence.”

Oswald received his professional master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Innsbruck, Austria
